Dedicated Trucking Service OhioThis easy shipping guide will help first-time shippers or provide those that need updated on the latest shipping rules.

Browse this shipping guide for a step-by-step look at the LTL freight-shipping process. There’s special focus on the questions first-time shippers ask most often about shipping their freight.

Freight-Shipping Steps

1. Preparing Your Package
> Proper packaging prevents damage to goods. All freight should be protected with proper packaging in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system. Click here for more info.

2. Label every piece of your shipment.

After final proper shipping protection, the next step is to identify your freight – with complete names and addresses visible on each piece – to ensure your entire shipment arrives intact. The shipper and consignee information must match the Bill of Lading (BOL) information exactly, and your labels must be legible and complete.

Label PlacementHow to label truck shipment

Ideally, labels should be placed securely on the long and short sides of each piece, pallet or container.

DOT hazardous material labels are required when shipping ANY DOT hazardous materials. AVP Express currently does not transport any hazardous material shipments.

Unless specifically provided for elsewhere in the NMFC, address markings must be affixed approximately as shown in the following examples picture. The location shown indicates the top, side or end.

If more than one location is shown, you may choose which one to use.

3. Complete a Bill of Lading.

The Bill of Lading is a legal contract between the shipper (you) and the carrier (AVP Express LLC). The Bill of Lading states exactly what is being shipped, where it has come from (origin) and where it’s going (receiver).

The Bill of Lading is a legal receipt for goods, a contract of transport service and a document of title. It is very  important to correctly and completely fill out a Bill of Lading. Bills of Lading are available at office supply stores.

4. Arrange your AVP Express pickup online or call 330-899-8689.

Call AVP customer service at 330-899-8689 to request a shipment pickup. Or request your pickup online at our Pickup Request page.

When your AVP Express driver arrives to pick up the shipment, give him or her the Bill of Lading. You will receive a signed copy of your shipment pickup.

5. GPS Freight Tracking.

After pickup, our GPS tracking tools follow your freight as it moves along to its final delivery destination. Your entire shipment moves through our system with only one tracking number to follow. All pallet shipments remain on the pallet(s), and individual boxes/items are not separated from the rest of your shipment.

That’s Shipping Basics 101. Now, you’re ready to ship!
